Product lifecycle states
Before Stock Levels decides whether a product is under- or overstocked, it decides what kind of product it is right now. That is the lifecycle state. Every product gets exactly one, checked in this order, and the first rule that matches wins.
The states, in order
- Discontinued - replenishment is stopped for the product, the product is under a phased-out brand, an active pause is running, or Dutchie has retired the product. The engine never suggests it and it leaves every lane. A pause ends on its own on the day you chose; the others end when someone resumes them.
- Stale - nothing sellable, last delivered more than the Stale threshold ago (default 60 days), and it never built up enough selling days to count as established. Flagged for review, not for reorder.
- Stockout - nothing sellable, the product was established, the last delivery was longer ago than the Stockout cooldown (default 7 days, so a delivery still syncing does not count), and it sold within the Stockout silence limit (default 60 days). Shown in the Stockout lane with a reorder quantity sized from the rate it sold at before it ran out. "Nothing sellable" includes a ghost: an established product down to three units or fewer that has not sold once in the sales velocity window. Dutchie sometimes reports a unit or two for a product that sold its run out weeks ago, and the shelf is empty either way. The row note says "Down to 1 unit".
- Lapsed - nothing sellable (or a ghost, as above) and established, but silent longer than the silence limit. Shown as Long stockout. No suggested quantity.
- New - delivered within the New product learning days (default 14) and not yet established.
- Learning - not yet established, and not recently delivered (or never delivered). New and learning products do not appear on Stock Levels. On Build order a new strain is ordered with its product line, whose rate counts every strain in it.
- Mature - established. Only mature products are then placed as understock, fine, or overstock by days of cover.
What "established" means
A product is established when any of three bars is reached:
- Selling days - it has sold on at least the New product learning days (default 14). "Selling days" means calendar days on which the product had at least one completed sale, counted over its whole life.
- Units sold - it has sold at least the Established after units sold count (default 50) across three or more different days. This bar exists for the fast seller that keeps selling out: a product that received 200 units and sold them in four days has only four selling days and would never reach the first bar, yet its 200 units are all the evidence a rate needs. Set the count to 0 to switch this bar off.
- Days in stock - it has had stock on at least the New product learning days (default 14), counted from the daily inventory snapshot BudLogix takes at 11:30 PM. This bar exists for the slow seller that never sells out and never sells much: it would wait months for fourteen selling days, and meanwhile be sized from its brand and category, which sell far faster than it does. Weeks on the shelf are evidence too, and what it sold in them is its rate, however low. Most such products land in Overstock on their own number and are not reordered.
An established product that sold nothing in the sales velocity window, and is not a ghost, has no rate to be placed by. It is shown in the Overstock lane with a blank cover and a note such as "On the shelf 60 days, never sold" or "On the shelf 74 days, nothing sold in the last 30 days", so it is not forgotten.
A product established on units alone is trusted only so far: its rate is capped at the fastest established product in its category, so a launch weekend or a promotion cannot size an order the shelf has never earned. The cap lifts on its own once the product also reaches the selling-days bar. Stock Levels marks such a rate as capped in the row note.
What "nothing sellable" means
A product's sellable count is its stock in active rooms. If its only units sit in Quarantine or another room you have not marked active, it is out of stock as far as a customer is concerned, even though Dutchie shows units on hand. Stock Levels says so in the row note: "held off the sales floor". See How BudLogix counts what is on hand.
Where you see this
- Stock Levels: stockout, lapsed (as Long stockout) and mature products appear in lanes; discontinued ones are counted in the "Not shown" line.
- Stock Levels Settings: the Lifecycle classification fields set the day and unit counts above.
