Product ratings
Every product on the Products screen gets one of five ratings for the date window you are looking at. The rating is a verdict on two things at once: how much gross profit the product earned, and how long the stock left would last at the pace it sold.
How a product is ranked
Products that sold at least once in the window are ranked by gross profit and split into tenths. The top tenth are the biggest earners; the top three tenths "earn well". Products that did not sell are not ranked. The ranking covers every product in the window, active or retired in Dutchie, so switching between the Active, Inactive and All chips does not change anyone's rating.
Days of supply is sellable on hand divided by the product's Velocity: units sold per day in stock, not per calendar day. The days the nightly count recorded it as empty come out of the window, so a product that sold 200 units in four days and then sat empty for the rest of the month sells at 50 a day, not 6.7. A day with no count on file counts as in stock. A product that did not sell has no days of supply.
The five ratings
- Top earner - in the top 10% by gross profit, with 60 days of supply or less. It earns a lot and it clears. Keep it in stock.
- Overstocked - in the top 30% by gross profit, with more than 90 days of supply. It earns well; you are simply holding months of it.
- Steady - sold, and is neither a standout nor a problem. Nothing to do. This includes products with no measurable days of supply.
- Slow - outside the top 30% by gross profit, with more than 180 days of supply. It still sells, barely, and there is a lot of it left.
- Not selling - stock on hand above zero and no sale in the window at all.
Inside Not selling, the Never sold chip keeps only products that have never sold a unit in any window. These are a buying question; the rest are usually a pricing question.
The thresholds (10%, 30%, 60, 90 and 180 days) are defaults built into the report. There is no settings screen for them.
Reading the verdict
Opening a row shows the verdict as a sentence: what it earned, how fast it sells and how many days of it you hold. The rating changes with the date window, so a product can be a Top earner over three months and Steady over one week.
