Display schedule and display modes

Whether a TV is showing anything at all is decided separately from what it is showing. Three layers combine: the organization's store-hours schedule, a group's display mode, and the screen's own display mode. The most specific one wins.

The store-hours schedule

The Screen schedule dialog on Manage devices has one switch, Run screens on a schedule. Off means every screen runs 24/7. On means a screen shows content from Turn on before opening by minutes before the store opens until Stay on after closing for minutes after it closes (30 minutes each by default), and black the rest of the time. Closed days are black all day. The hours come from Organization Settings > Business > Store hours; with no store hours set, the switch has no effect and screens run 24/7.

"Black" means the player draws a black picture. The panel is never powered off or on by BudLogix.

Display modes

Each screen, and each group, can override the schedule:

  • Follow schedule - the default. Dark outside store hours when the schedule is on; otherwise always on.
  • Always on (Keep on (no end) on a screen) - shows content regardless of hours.
  • Keep on until tomorrow - always on until the same time tomorrow, then back to following the schedule.
  • Always off (Turn off (manual) on a screen) - black until someone changes it.

A screen with no override of its own takes its group's mode; Use group setting on a screen page clears the screen's override. A screen with no group and no override follows the schedule.

Mode changes are pushed to the TV at once. Each TV then keeps to the schedule on its own clock, so an outage does not switch it on or off.

What you see

  • The Wall tile and the screen page's Now playing card carry a badge: Scheduled off (dark by the schedule), Off (manual), Always on, or Always on - until [time]. No badge means on and following the schedule.
  • A dark screen's page reads Dark until opening or Turned off by an operator in place of the preview, so a promo nobody can see is not shown as playing.

Where you see this

  • Manage devices: the Schedule dialog and group modes under Manage groups.
  • The Wall and Screen details: per-screen modes and badges.
  • Run screens on a store-hours schedule
