Screens, playlists and schedules
Digital Signage has four kinds of thing. Knowing which is which tells you where to click.
Screens
A screen is one TV running the BudLogix player, paired to your organization with a code. It has a name, an optional location and a group. Groups (Sales floor, Counter, and so on) only organize The Wall and the device list and let you set a display mode for several screens at once. A screen's online / offline badge is about the player's connection, not about whether anything is showing.
Content
Content is the library of files. A content item can be shown on a screen on its own, or be used in any number of playlists. Deleting a content item removes it from every playlist and screen.
Playlists
A playlist is an ordered list of content items with a hold time for each, played in a loop. One playlist can be on several screens at once; a change to it reaches all of them. Deleting a playlist does not delete its content. The Active label on a playlist is bookkeeping for the list; it does not take the playlist off a screen.
Placements (the Scheduling page)
Putting a playlist or a content item on a screen creates a placement. A placement has a switch (Active), a Priority and an optional Starts / Ends window. A screen shows one placement at a time: switching one on switches the others off, though they stay listed so you can switch back. The Scheduling page lists every placement across all screens but changes nothing; you make changes on the screen page or The Wall.
Two different "schedules" exist, and they are independent:
- A placement window (Starts / Ends) says when that item may be shown.
- The store-hours Screen schedule and the per-screen display modes say when the TV shows anything at all. See Display schedule and display modes.
Where you see this
- Manage devices: screens and groups.
- Content and Playlists: the library and the loops.
- Screen details and The Wall: placements, made and switched.
- Scheduling: every placement in one table.
