What online and offline mean

A screen's status badge describes the player's connection to BudLogix, not what the TV is displaying. A screen can be online and black (scheduled off), or offline and still looping the slides it downloaded earlier.

The three statuses

  • pairing - a TV asked for a pairing code and nobody has entered it yet. The row has no device code. If the code expires unused, the row is removed about 15 minutes later.
  • online - the player has reported in recently. Last Seen shows how long ago.
  • offline - the player has been silent for more than 10 minutes. Every 5 minutes BudLogix checks for online screens past that limit and flips them, so a dead screen shows as offline within about 15 minutes of going quiet. It flips back to online the moment the player reports in again.

What "reporting in" is

While a screen has content, the player sends a short report about every 30 seconds. Whether or not it has content, it fetches its content every 5 minutes, and that counts too. Either one refreshes Last Seen. A screen with nothing on it therefore still shows online.

What offline does and does not mean

  • The TV may be off, unplugged from the network, or the app may have stopped. The player keeps the files it downloaded, so if only the network dropped, the slides keep playing, and from player 1.0.3 they play after a restart too. See When the TV loses power or network.
  • Changes you make in BudLogix wait: the push cannot reach the TV, and it picks them up at its next successful fetch.
  • The store-hours schedule keeps working on the TV's own clock.
  • Deleting the screen in BudLogix while it is offline is fine; the TV returns to the pairing screen the next time it reaches the server.

Where you see this

  • Manage devices: the Online / Offline / Pairing cards, the Status and Last Seen columns.
  • The Wall: the coloured dot on each tile (green online, red offline, amber pairing).
  • Screen details: the Status card.
