Package units versus grams

Metrc declares a package by its total content, not by what is inside it. Fifty eighths ship as 175 grams; thirteen 14 g jars ship as 182 grams. The person opening the box counts eighths and jars. Comparing that count to the manifest's grams compares bags to grams, so BudLogix works out the expected number of sellable units first.

How the expected count is worked out

  • If the manifest's unit is Each, the shipped quantity already counts sellable units and is used as it is. Vape carts, edibles and most pre-rolls arrive this way.
  • If the manifest's unit is Grams, the shipped grams are divided by the matched product's weight, which must be recorded in grams. 175 g of a 3.5 g product is 50 units. The Counting screen shows the sum, for example 175g / 3.5g.
  • A pre-roll pack is priced by the pack: a 3.5 g five-pack has 3.5 g as its product weight, so an 87.5 g package is 25 packs, which is exactly what one sellable each is.

When there is no expected count

  • No product - the package is not linked to a product, so there is no weight to divide by. Link it in the cockpit; see Link an unmatched line to a product.
  • Check weight - the product's weight does not divide the package evenly. That says the stored weight is wrong, not that the package is odd. A 606 g package against a product recorded as 14 g, or a 3.75 g five-pack recorded as 3.5 g, are the usual causes. Fix the weight in Products and recount.
  • Historical lines with no unit of measure cannot be read either way, so nothing is expected of them.

A count can still be recorded on these packages; it just has nothing to compare against, and the Counting screen shows it under need a product.

The received quantity is not a count

When a package is scanned present, BudLogix copies the shipped quantity as its received quantity. That figure is bookkeeping, not evidence. Only the number typed in Counted says what was in the box, and only a counted package can read short, over or Matches.

Where you see this

  • Counting - Expected, Counted and the outcome badges.
  • Reconciliation cockpit - Counted x of y - n short on a line.
